Actual Weekend - Part 4 of 5: Planes, Trains and Buses

We had all kinds of great plans to go to the zoo on Sunday, but - it turns out - James and daylight savings time were not in on the plan. We're not complaining though. What this means is that instead of waking up at 5am, James is finally waking up closer to 6 (sometimes even 6:30 - woo hoo!).

So, it was on to plan B. In a city full of culture, outdoor activities, parks, playgrounds and festivals, we chose "taking public transportation to the airport." Seriously. Planes, trains and buses -  the transportation trifecta.

Reagan National Airport is only 12 minutes from our house and the Metro (DC 's subway) is a mile up the road. We walked to the Metro, took it two stops and got off at the airport. It took some conversation to convince James that we weren't going anywhere and we thought we might be in trouble when he started explaining (in full detail) his plans once we arrived at Sanibel, but we were saved by a giant Lego display. We could not have planned it any better. The displays were sponsored by Vestas and the theme was using wind power so each of the displays had a hole you could blow into to make things work and buttons to press to make action happen.

But wait - the fun didn't stop there. Next stop? TGI Fridays, of course!

Here's James' view during lunch....

Here's James (and our ice cream sundae) at the airport.
and here's Molly...
Then it was back onto the Metro to head home for naps... for everyone.

Here's James on the train....

and here's Molly (starting to see a trend?)....
Two quick stops later and we are on a bus. The bus goes right down our main drag - King Street and stops about 1 1/2 blocks from our house.

Total ride time - about 8 minutes.
Public transportation memories - forever.

James pulling the chord to tell the driver to stop.

Yup, that's right folks. A ride on public transportation and lunch at the airport.
Nothing but the best for our kids...
